Frequently Asked Questions

Religious trauma occurs when harmful beliefs or practices within a faith community cause emotional, psychological, or spiritual damage. Read more about religious trauma on our resources page.

The impact of community and finding others who share similar experiences is an often overlooked aspect of healing. It not only helps you feel validated and seen, but it also supports healing around the sense of betrayal that is so often experienced in religious and spiritual environments.

The group meets for an hour, weekly, via a secure online platform. Date and time is currently to be determined based on participant availability.

Our religious trauma group therapy sessions are typically organized into 10-week cycles, with a two week break between groups. Participants are asked to re-evaluate their commitment at each 10-week cycle.

Note: The group is currently on hold until there are enough participants signed up. If you are interested, please inquire below to be contacted when a minimum threshold is reached.

Healing is a process and can take many years with consistent therapeutic work. Group work, in particular requires a commitment from participants to be available for sessions regularly to help foster connection and trust.

Our religious trauma group therapy sessions are typically organized into 10-week cycles, with a two week break between groups. Participants are asked to re-evaluate their commitment at each 10-week cycle. If a participant must miss a session they are expected to notify the group ahead of time and will be charged for the session.

Each week participants will be encouraged to share parts of their story and reflect on the feelings that surface as they listen to themselves and others. Participants will be encouraged to respectfully share their own perspectives and responses to others as we collectively navigate interpersonal and intrapersonal dynamics.

While group therapy is a safe and welcoming space, it is a group of people with diverse experiences and perspectives on the world, so conflict and tension will arise. When these situations arise, they will be discussed and explored by the group together.

Group sessions are $45 each week and payment is processed via an online portal. Because your space in the group is reserved for you, the weekly session fee applies whether or not you’re able to participate that week.

Discounts are available to those who need financial accommodations.

Yes. Group therapy is therapeutic for many reasons. It can provide a safe-enough environment to share difficult experiences. Participants generally feel validated, supported, to reassured that they are not alone.

Because all groups are made up of unique individuals, tensions can and do arise, creating opportunities for individual growth. Conflict is not avoided in group therapy, but addressed head on.

While group work is healing and can create significant change for individuals, it is not necessarily a replacement for individual therapy.
